We wanted to showcase a different Japan in “Sumo”: Rajiv Menon

Cinematographer-director Rajiv Menon, who has been cranking the camera for SP Hosimin’s comic caper “Sumo“, says he loved shooting for several portions of the film in Japan. The ace lensman conducted a recce before shooting there to know more about the locations and culture there.

 He says, “As the movie revolves around a Sumo wrestler, we went in search of traditional Japanese homes to learn about their lives. It was a delight to visit Fuji Five Lakes near Mount Fuji. We wanted to showcase something different in terms of landscape in Japan. For example, Taj Mahal is the first thing which comes to the minds of many foreigners who visit India, and how Eiffel Tower in Paris, but there is lot more to every country.”
As we already knew Sumo Mirchi Siva, Priya Anand, VTV Ganesh and Yogi Babu in crucial roles. The film also stars a Japanese sumo wrestler, Yoshinori Tashiro. Produced by Isari K Ganesh under the banner “Vels Film International”, VTV Ganesh, is also co-producing the film, apart from doing a supporting a role in this film.“It is a big budget project and the story unfolds in both India and Japan.” The film’s director S P Hosimin is noted to be a one-time assistant of Director Shankar. Nivas K Prasanna is scoring the music and Bgm as well.
